A bit about me

I’m the daughter of a sailmaker. And could he spin a yarn. Storytelling is in

my blood.

I began my career telling stories as a working union actor in both New York

City and Los Angeles, but I gained a different perspective on life after having

two kids. I earned a law degree, represented children and survivors of

domestic violence, and worked for a state representative, helping to pass laws

that protect children, animals, and sexual assault victims.

Pivoting again in 2011, I studied writing and filmmaking at NYU. I wrote,
produced, and directed four short films that screened at festivals. Two of my
screenplays received high recognition at Austin Film Festival. Three of my

poems have appeared in the literary journals "Dovetail" and "Blue Crystal."

I love that my life informs my writing, and my writing often informs my life.

My debut novel, Andréa Gleason-Torres Needs a New Recipe (working title)

is set in upper Manhattan, and is filled with relatable characters whom I love.

I’m a longtime vegetarian, excellent cook, serious gardener, and avid swimmer.
Currently, I live in rural New York with my life-partner and two high energy

dogs.
